Dear Parents and Students of Howe Sound School District: The purpose of this page is to provide parents and students with a list of some of the best homework sites available on the web, with an emphasis on Canadian content. These ‘safe’ sites can be used with confidence as they come recommended by librarians and educational researchers. There are many websites offering help to students working on school assignments, projects, or just trying to solve their math homework. However, often parents and students find the Internet a chaotic, frustrating, and sometimes a ‘dangerous’ place to try to find useful information. Parents not only worry about the content of sites, but also the educational quality of links. To help parents and students navigate through the internet, this list outlines the top homework sites available on the web today.

Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators Kathy Schrock is considered the expert in this area internet learning for young people. Her list of critical evaluation skills will help students navigate their way around the Internet.
Students can find information and help on a wide array of topics aligned with learning outcomes specified by the B.C. Ministry of Learning. Maintained by the Vancouver Public Library, this search engine provides assistance specifically for B.C. students at both Elementary and Secondary levels.
This is an electronic public library with particularly useful areas for homework found by clicking on the link to Youth or Teen. Here students can find a subject listing of sites geared to these age groups including General Homework Help. The Reference link also give students the ability to e-mail a volunteer librarian and ask reference questions. This site services the homework needs of students in grades 7 to 12, who can choose from the 27 subject categories. The site also shares valuable advice for students in both writing research papers, essays, and outlines how to cite electronic sources. Students can access the help of librarians who will respond to questions within 48 hours. This site provides help in a variety of subject area for students and with useful links for teacher, as well. It has easy to access links to support students works: Almanac, Atlas, Encyclopedia, Thesaurus, Dictionary.

This Internet search tool for homework is divided into 15 subject categories, ranging from Reading, Writing, and Speaking to Facts/Current Events. The reading level of each site is given, and many detailed illustrations available for downloading.
